This is a question from OG 11th that I find interesting and confusing. Please show you opinion and answer why. Thanks!

For years the beautiful Renaissance buildings in Palitito have been damaged by exhaust from the many tour buses that come to the city. There has been little parking space, so most buses have idled at the curb during each stop on their tour, and idling produces as much exhaust as driving. The city has now provided parking that accommodates a third of the tour buses, so damage to Palitito's buildings from the buses' exhaust will diminish significantly.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the argument?

A. The exhaust from Palitito's few automobiles is not a significant threat to Palitito's buildings.
B. Palitito's Renaissance buildings are not threatened by pollution other than engine exhaust.
C. Tour buses typically spend less than one quarter of the time they are in Paltito transporting passengers from one site to another.
D. More tourists come to Paltito by tour bus than by any other means of transportation.
C. Some of the tour buses that are unable to find parking drive around Palitito while their passengers are visiting a site.

Bạn chú ý title của topic nhé, lần sau chỉ cần post đơn giản thôi. Vd: CR- .... 11/6 hay SC- .... 11/6

A) The exhaust from Palitito's few automobiles is not a significant threat to Palitito's buildings
OUT OF SCOPE: autos are not part of this ... buses are

B) Palitito's Renaissance buildings are not threatened by pollution other than engine exhaust
OUT OF SCOPE... we are talking directly about exhaust from buses

C) Tour buses typically spend less than one-quarter of the time they are in Palitito transporting passengers from one site to another
Correct

D) Most tourists come to Palitoto by tour bus than by any other single means of transportation
OUT OF SCOPE COMPLETELY, what do we care about tourists themselves here???

E) Some fo the tour buses that are unable to find parking drive around Palitito while their passengers are visting a site
This one is tricky, it actually weakens the argument that parking will be a solution to the exhaust problem

A. The exhaust from Palitito's few automobiles is not a significant threat to Palitito's buildings. <-- This, if true, would WEAKEN the argument.
B. Palitito's Renaissance buildings are not threatened by pollution other than engine exhaust. Buildings threatened by pollution. Only source of pollution: engine exhaust. Measures to reduce engine exhaust imposed --> pollution decreased --> buildings less threatened <-- best choice
C. Tour buses typically spend less than one quarter of the time they are in Paltito transporting passengers from one site to another. <-- Irrelevant
D. More tourists come to Paltito by tour bus than by any other means of transportation. <-- Irrelevant
C. Some of the tour buses that are unable to find parking drive around Palitito while their passengers are visiting a site. <-- Irrelevant (idling = driving)

Just out of curiosity, what was so confusing to you about this problem?

Ừ, vừa đọc lại... B is actually irrelevant since the main argument in the paragraph concerns the volume of exhausts discharged by buses, not the source of pollution that threatens buildings in Palitito.
C is actually correct since more than 3/4 of the time buses will need to be parked or left idling.

Still I think this is quite straightforward... wondering why OP thinks it's confusing.

Thank you everyone! Actually C is the right answer. I think both B and C are good choices but C is better. A, D, E are irrelevant. I chose B at first though.:(

Bác Quang tinh mắt thật.

Bài này dành cho ngày 11/06 mà các bác đã póc tem sớm quá.

Câu này trong OG đã giải thích rõ là C.

Conclusion: Reduce damages produced by bus's exhausted by building car parks.
Reason: Idle bus produces as much exhaust as running buses.

==> only C actually related.

Câu này mình thấy clear, nhiều câu chuối hơn nhiều!
